April 5, 2012 17 birds of 7 species.  New species American Goldfinch and House Finch.  Maybe we are just anthropomorphizing, but it seemed like many of the birds have paired up as we frequently caught “couples” today.  Both of our finch species were caught as pairs, the male and female about a foot away from each other in the nets.  We also caught a pair of cardinals near each other in the same net.  Early in the day, David Mathiason brought two guests to the station.  Chris Chapman and Laura were visiting from Australia, and they stopped by to see some little birds before they headed out to band Kestrels.                                                                                                                         Andrea Patterson
