Thursday May 17, 2012.  91 new of 27 species; 20 recaps.  New species Black-billed Cuckoo.  It was an interesting day, with lots of variety and the BTC students banding, with supervision!  Betsy enjoyed some quality time with young Quinn Deutschlander.   We were also visited by a flock of Montessori students, the first ones to be banded at the station.  The seven students saw a sharp-shinned hawk, made net rounds, heard a bird’s heartbeat, and they each got to release a bird back in to the wild.  The students were also banded with special bands (they take a size “K”), given alpha codes, and had their “wing chords” taken.  They told us it was the best field trip ever, and we wouldn’t be surprised if we “recapture” them again the future.  Andrea Patterson
