The rain missed us!  When we opened this morning, there was a thunderstorm to our northwest.  We had only limited staff, but radar showed the rain heading almost due north over the lake.  We cautiously opened a few nets.  A little later we opened a few more, since radar showed that additional rain would not reach us for some time.  In the end we used only 13 nets for a total of 71.5 net hours.  The rain held off and at the end of the day we had banded 22 new birds of 9 species and we processed 6 recaptures.  Not bad!  The Blackpoll Warbler was the bird of the day; 9 were banded.  Our most interesting bird was a Philadelphia Vireo.      John Waud
