Thursday October 4, 2012.  74 new of 19 species; 36 recaps.  White-throated Sparrow was bird of the day with 28 banded.  Seven Tufted Titmice were probably a record one-day high number and five of them were banded at the same time.  An Orange-crowned Warbler was a treat.  A Ruby-crowned Kinglet was our 4000th bird of the fall season.  A Traill’s Flycatcher was a surprise, and we beat the season record of Red-breasted Nuthatches today.

We did some owl banding tonight, catching one shortly after 9 PM.  The little female was caught on the ‘land’ side of the net whereas a majority of the owls on the previous nights have been caught on the ‘lake’ side of the nets.  Betsy Brooks
