63 new bands of 14 species, 15 recaps.  Bird of the day was Hermit Thrush, with 14 new bands.  Highlights included frost on the field nets as we opened, teen bander Claire correctly identifying a female Black-throated Blue Warbler and a Swamp Sparrow, Ryan and Heather (new teen volunteers) successfully net-picking birds, Jenna banding another Tufted Titmouse, and Robert and Aiden (7 and 6 years old, respectively) identifying nearly every bird we showed them.

Of course, the other highlight was banding our 5,000th bird of the season, a male Ruby-crowned Kinglet.

The 5,000th bird banded at BBBO this fall – a handsome male Ruby-crowned Kinglet.
