Saturday April 20, 2013.  21 new birds of 7 species, 23 recaps.  No new species.  It was cold and windy at BBBO today . . . altogether unpleasant conditions!  Due to the wind, we only opened a few nets in protected areas and we kept a close eye on the radar as the weather seemed quite unpredictable.  In true Rochester style, we had a few peeks of sunshine but they were suddenly overcome by dark clouds which not only threatened – but also produced – snow!  After a delightful visit from some folks in the area for the the Birds of Prey Days, we decided to close early.  It was fun to see Maggie again after she was away last season banding Burrowing Owls on the Farallon Islands (how cool is that!!!), and we hope she’ll bring some pictures next time!  Our intern Mike has started banding small birds, our teen bander Claire is stepping right up as a regular member of the crew, and Gary is getting his “net-picking fingers” back.  It won’t be long before these three are running the station!  Andrea Patterson
