Sunday April 21, 2013. 52 new birds of 12 species, 54 recaps; new species House Wren. The morning started off bitterly cold and the nets were scattered with Black-capped Chickadees and Kinglets. With frozen fingers, we picked a total of 53 Black-capped Chickadees from the nets!! Of the 53, 26 were new birds and the other 27 were previously banded. We also banded several other species including: Song Sparrow, Red-winged Blackbird, Brown Creeper, Brown Thrasher, Northern Cardinal, and House Wren. We had several guests at the banding station who tagged along for net runs, observed the banders at work, and enjoyed the sun. Leanna Twhohig
