Saturday, April 12 2014:  54 new birds of 8 species, 7 recaps.  New species:  Brown Creeper, Golden-crowned Kinglet, Winter Wren, Blue-gray Gnatcatcher, Black-capped Chickadee, Slate-colored Junco, Song Sparrow, and American Robin.  Bird of the day was Golden-crowned Kinglet with 19 new bands.

It was great to be back outdoors again after a long, cold winter!  Our trails are still wet and muddy, but there are signs of spring everywhere – daffodils are coming up, the “pussy willows” are out, and birds were singing and calling from every direction.  We enjoyed a visit from Frank Nicoletti’s and Luke Tiller’s HMANA raptor workshop, and several other guests stopped by as well.  Two new volunteers also began learning the ins and outs of our station today.  We welcome Patrick Royce and Jim Saller to our crew!
