Sunday, April 13, 2014: 96 new birds of 19 species; 6 recaps.  New Species: Ruby-crowned Kinglet, Field Sparrow, American Tree Sparrow, American Goldfinch, Swamp Sparrow, White-throated Sparrow, Hermit Thrush, Fox Sparrow, Yellow-bellied Sapsucker, Common Grackle, Yellow-shafted Flicker, Sharp-shinned Hawk, and American Kestrel.  The bird of the day was the Golden-crowned Kinglet with 38 individuals.  The Brown Creeper was a close second with 29 birds.

We had a very busy morning and were pleasantly surprised to see so many different species so early in the season.  It was an extra special treat to band both a Sharp-shinned Hawk and an American Kestrel.  We had a few guests visiting the banding station today, including two very excited young ladies who couldn’t wait to see all the cool birds.    Leanna Twohig
