Saturday June 28, 2014.  24 new birds of 14 species; 10 recaps.

After a rainy morning with a threat of lightning forced us to close after an hour on Tuesday, we got the rest of the six hours on Saturday.

On Tuesday, Dr. Waud and the banding station were featured on the Giving Back segment of Time Warner Cable News. The clip can be viewed here:  http://rochester.twcnews.com/content/news/giving_back/.

Between the two days we got 24 new birds and 10 recaptures of 14 species. Saturday was a particularly good day because we did not have a single net run without birds! We caught a good variety with Gray Catbirds leading the way. We also got Indigo Buntings, a first for this summer, Veery, Carolina Wrens, and a pair of very nice Rose-breasted Grosbeaks.

Like last banding session, our only woodpecker of the day came on the last net run, an ATY Downy Woodpecker. Thank you to the volunteers who came out in the rain and for the unexpected rain date.
