Monday September 1, 2014  38 new bands, 10 recaps

We are a dedicated bunch, volunteering on Labor Day. It was hot! I mean it was a humid hot day. But, the birds did not disappoint.

There were 15 species visiting the nets, the greatest number of which were 11 Magnolia Warblers and 5 American Redstarts. The catch of the day, adding to the species list, was a Brown Thrasher.

Our first bird of the day was a sweet  Blue- gray Gnatcatcher.

There were 38 new birds banded and 10 recaptures keeping Peggy Keller, Marian Klik, Jane Capellupo, Terry Perry and Virginia Duffy busy. A couple of visitors from Greece, New York, showed up at the last hour and missed the excitement of early morning. Even though the winds were light and out of the south the birds keep coming.
