Monday May 2, 2016:  2 new birds of 2 species, 0 recaps.  No new species.  Birds of the day were Ruby-crowned Kinglet and White-throated Sparrow, each with 1 new band.  We opened a few nets at dawn, but rain moved in quickly and we closed an hour later.  Erin banded her first small bird today, and we hope that this week she’ll get plenty of opportunities to band a wide variety of species.

Rodney Olsen and his daughter Ryley are visiting from Vermont for two days, and they brought our new intern Melissa with them.  Melissa will be with us for two weeks.  She is a photographer, and has promised to create a slideshow for us with the pictures she takes while she is here.

Since the rain shut us down early, Ryan had everyone make a list of 10 species we think we might catch tomorrow that we haven’t caught yet this season.  Some of the guesses are pretty good:  Blue-headed Vireo, Black-and-white Warbler.  Some of the guesses are a big stretch:  White-eyed Vireo and Swainson’s Warbler.  Who will win?  Tune in tomorrow for the result!
