Bag Making Bee

Now that New York State is phasing out single-use plastic bags, BBBO needs a new way to store nets for the winter.  Join us as we sew lightweight tote bags that will be used to keep our precious nets safe and sound.  We’ll provide supplies, coffee and cookies.  We are hoping to schedule this event for a local quilt shop that can provide some machines, but currently attendees should be prepared to bring their own machines. RSVP required.

Gardens

BBBO maintains two native plant gardens at the station, as well as several native gardens at the BBBO field house.  Join us as we pull weeds, identify and label plantings, and carefully edge the gardens to smooth the way for easier management in the future.  This family-friendly event is open to everyone.  We’ll provide tools, snacks and water.  Bring your own water bottle and work gloves (if you have them), and be sure to dress appropriately for work outdoors.  RSVP required.

Habitat and Grounds

Join us as we mow paths, trim vegetation, mulch trails, and work on a variety of small outdoor projects that keep our banding station safe for both humans and birds.  This family-friendly event is open to everyone.  We’ll provide tools, snacks and water.  Bring your own water bottle and work gloves (if you have them), and be sure to dress appropriately for work outdoors.  RSVP required.

House and Station

The BBBO house and station need to be periodically cleaned and organized to get ready for new guests or for the start (or end) of a season.  Join us as we sweep, dust, and disinfect our human habitats.  This family-friendly event is open to everyone.  We’ll provide tools, snacks and water.  Bring your own water bottle and work gloves (if you have them), and be sure to dress appropriately for indoor work.  RSVP required.

Net Mending Bee

Nets are fragile and they need to be mended.  Join us as we recreate an old-fashioned sewing bee.  We’ll whip-stitch holes and string new trammel lines on this fun and and relaxing afternoon indoors.  We’ll provide supplies, coffee and cookies. RSVP required.

Season Clean Up

Join us as we close BBBO for the season and prepare it for the winter.  We’ll take in nets, give vegetation a final trim, and move supplies from the banding station to the field house. This family-friendly event is open to everyone.  We’ll provide tools, snacks and water.  Bring your own water bottle and work gloves (if you have them), and be sure to dress appropriately for indoor work.  RSVP required.

Station Set Up

Join us as we get BBBO set up for the start of the season.  We’ll be trimming vegetation, setting up nets, and organizing the banding station so that everything is ready to go on opening day. This family-friendly event is open to everyone.  We’ll provide tools, snacks and water.  Bring your own water bottle and work gloves (if you have them), and be sure to dress appropriately for work outdoors.  RSVP required.
